The work on this site shows glimpses of places and things that have been diminished by time. The pealing paint or cracked plaster that we see now were once vibrant and new. They existed in a context that no longer exists. The scenes are empty and devoid of human presence, but whispers of the people and times that were once connected to them remain.
The compositions are simple but the technique is complex and time consuming. The pictures take months to complete, but working on them is relaxing and meditative for me. The lengthy process allows me to consider the subject matter more closely. I often see things at a deeper level than I would otherwise have.
I am sometimes asked if the pictures are symbolic. While I may have some ideas about this, I invite the viewer to discover personal meaning in them.
